Yorkshire passes on the baton to celebrate 75 years at the heart of walking

Then and now - Ramblers is asking YOU to get out and take up the Baton, to help them celebrate 75 years as Britain’s walking charity.

This July Ramblers from across Yorkshire and the Humber are inviting you to get out and take up the baton to help the Ramblers celebrate 75 years as Britain’s walking charity. Special Ramblers 75th birthday batons will be making a historic journey around Britain as walkers carry the baton from region to region, celebrating the Ramblers work to make Britain one of the most walking friendly countries in the world.

Baton walks are taking place across the whole of Yorkshire and the Humber from the rugged beauty of the North Yorkshire Moors to stunning city scenery of historic York. Highlights include:

• Thursday 1st July – An evening stroll along the Yorkshire Wolds to welcome the baton on its historic journey into Yorkshire.

• Sunday 18th July – An afternoon amble through the lovely village of Finningley followed by some celebratory tea and birthday cake.

• Saturday 31st July – The opportunity to take part in a 26 mile walking marathon from Grimsby to Louth as the baton is passed from Yorkshire to the East Midlands.

Tom Franklin, CEO of the Ramblers, comments:

“For 75 years, the Ramblers has existed as Britain’s walking charity, to help everyone – no matter who they are or where they’re from – experience the joy of walking.

“Now we’re asking everyone, of all ages and walking levels, to get out, celebrate walking and help us pass on the baton for future generations.”
